"SALTY KISSES" BEACH THEMED ALTERED BURLAP CANVAS

SALTY KISSES

HEY Y'ALL! I HAVE A GREAT, UNEXPECTED PROJECT FOR YOU TODAY. IN ANTICIPATION OF THE RE- GRAND OPENING OF THE LARGER SHOP WHERE I HAVE MY CREATIONS FOR SALE...(CHINABERRY DREAMS ARTISAN MARKETPLACE)... I WILL BE WORKING ON MANY PROJECTS IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.

TODAY I ACTUALLY COMPLETED 2 PROJECTS; BUT I WILL BE SPLITTING THEM UP INTO 2 BLOG POSTS... 1 TODAY AND 1 TOMORROW. THE PROJECT THAT I HAVE FOR YOU TODAY STARTS OUT WITH THIS GREAT BURLAP STRETCHED CANVAS THAT I FOUND AT HOBBY LOBBY. I WAS SO EXCITED, I COULD HARDLY WAIT TO GET STARTED ON IT.

I BEGAN THIS PROJECT BY DRY BRUSHING STREAKS OF WHITE ONTO THE CANVAS. THE BURLAP REALLY SOAKS UP THE PAINT, SO BE AWARE. I WANTED IT TO LOOK WEATHERED, SO SOME STREAKS WERE HEAVY, MOST LIGHT. AFTER I WAS SATISFIED WITH THE STREAKS, I USED THE HEIDI SWAPP 12X12 BORDERS STENCIL TO PUT A ROW OF STARS ACROSS THE TOP OF THE CANVAS. I JUST DRY BRUSHED IT WITH WHITE ACRYLIC PAINT AS WELL.

WHEN THE STAR BORDER WAS ALL COMPLETE... ON TO THE LETTERS FOR THE SENTIMENT. I CHOSE TO STAMP THE WORDS WITH TURQUOISE ACRYLIC PAINT AND MY CLEAR STAMPS. THIS WORKED OUT A LOT BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD.

IT LOOKS ROUGH AND RUSTIC JUST LIKE I WANTED. I GOT THIS SENTIMENT FROM SEEING SEVERAL DIFFERENT PROJECTS ON PINTEREST WITH THE SAME WORDING.

NOW, ON TO THE REALLY FUN PART... EMBELLISHING!!  I STARTED THIS BY USING STAMPERS ANONYMOUS/TIM HOLTZ'S BUBBLE LAYERING STENCIL TO ADD SOME COLOR AND TEXTURE IN THE BACKGROUND OF THE AREA WHERE I WILL BE PLACING THE EMBELLISHMENTS.

AFTER THE BUBBLE WRAP TEXTURE WAS DRY, I USED WENDY VECCHI/STUDIO 490 LEAVES/BRANCH STENCIL AND EMBOSSING PASTE TO ADD LEAVES TO THE AREA. I LEFT THESE KINDA ROUGH TO MAKE MORE TEXTURE.

ONCE THE PASTE WAS DRY, I USED A RANGER INK BLENDING TOOL AND TIM HOLTZ SCATTERED STRAW DISTRESS INK TO COLOR THE LEAVES AND ADD DISTRESSING AROUND THE EDGES OF THE CANVAS.

AFTER GATHERING EMBELLISHMENTS... FISH NETTING, GLASS PEBBLES, FLOWERS, & SEA SHELLS... IT ALL CAME TOGETHER QUITE WELL!!  THIS PROJECT CAME OUT EXACTLY AS I HAD IN MIND... SO BRIGHT AND CHEERY. I KNOW IT IS A LITTLE DIFFERENT TO BE MAKING SOMETHING BEACHY AT THIS TIME OF YEAR, BUT THIS IS WHAT CAME TO MIND AS I LOOKED AT THE BURLAP CANVAS. I LOVE IT!!

  1. This is awesome! I hope I get to see it in person before it goes in the shop! I like the leaves. When I saw the pictures earlier I thought they were done with paper...it's cool that you used the embossing paste!
