LWD Design Team Showcase: Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 Stencils for Art & Petaloo Botanica and Darjeeling Collection

CHRISTMAS CARD KEEPSAKES BOX
(ALTERED CIGAR BOX)

HEY Y'ALL! IT'S MY TURN FOR THE LONE WOLF DESIGNS, DESIGN TEAM PROJECT... AND I HAVE HAD THIS PROJECT IN MY "HEAD" FOR ABOUT A MONTH NOW; AND AM FINALLY GLAD TO GET IT DONE. FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO LIKE TO KEEP THOSE SPECIAL CHRISTMAS CARDS THAT YOU'VE RECEIVED OVER THE YEARS, BUT NOT SURE HOW TO STORE THEM; WELL I HAVE A NICE LITTLE BOX TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT WOULD BE PERFECT!!

THIS PROJECT STARTS OUT WITH THIS REALLY NICE CIGAR BOX. IT IS ONE OF THE NICER ONES I HAVE SEEN AND I DIDN'T HAVE TO DO ANY PREP TO IT BEFORE STARTING TO ALTER IT.

THE PRODUCTS THAT I WILL BE FEATURING IN THIS PROJECT IS THE WENDY VECCHI STUDIO 490 BRICK WALL STENCIL FOR ART; AND THE PETALOO BOTANICA AND DARJEELING COLLECTION.

AFTER CHOOSING MY SUPPLIES AND EMBELLISHMENTS, I STARTED ON THE TOP OF THE BOX BY LAYERING PATTERNED PAPER AND COORDINATING CARDSTOCK. I WANTED THIS BOX TO HAVE THE LOOK OF VINTAGE CHRISTMAS, SO I DISTRESSED THE EDGES OF THE CARDSTOCK WITH THE TONIC PAPER DISTRESSER... AND OF COURSE INKED ALL OF THE EDGES WITH BLACK SOOT DISTRESS INK BY TIM HOLTZ. AFTER GETTING ALL OF THE PAPER ADHERED, I USED THE BRICK WALL STENCIL BY WENDY VECCHI TO CREATE SOME TEXTURE. WITH VINTAGE PHOTO AND BLACK SOOT DISTRESS INKS BY TIM HOLTZ, I USED A BLENDING TOOL TO CREATE AN "OLD BRICK" LOOK.

NEXT, I STARTED TO EMBELLISH THE COVER. THE CENTER "FOCAL POINT" IS A PRIMA RESIN PIECE - WINDOW PANE. THE WINDOW PANE ALSO CAME WITH THE 2 CORNER PIECES THAT YOU WILL SEE ON THE TOP. TO CREATE A BACKGROUND FOR THE WINDOW; I TRACED AND CUT A PIECE OF WHITE CARDSTOCK TO SIZE AND STAMPED SOME TINY SNOWFLAKES "DRIFTING" DOWN THE WINDOW PANES. I ALSO ADDED SOME FELT PINE TREES TO THE SIDE FOR ADDED TEXTURE. USING SILVER AND GOLD STICKLES BY RANGER INK, I ADDED SOME SPARKLE TO THE TREES AND SNOWFLAKES.

OK... TIME FOR THE REALLY FUN PART!!  FLOWERS!!  CAN YOU TELL THEY ARE MY FAVORITE? NOT ONLY DID I USE PETALOO'S BOTANICA AND DARJEELING POINSETTIAS, I ADDED SOME GREEN BRANCHES FROM THE MARTHA STEWART BRANCH PUNCH (MAKE SURE TO INK THE EDGES OF THE PUNCH OUTS FOR ADDED DEPTH). ALONG WITH THE PETALOO FLOWERS, PETALOO LEAVES (CAME IN THE COLLECTION), AND THE BRANCH PUNCHES; I USED THE FAUX DRIED BERRY CLUSTERS ALSO FROM PETALOO'S BOTANICA COLLECTION. THEY ADDED SO MUCH BEAUTY AND TEXTURE TO THE PIECE!

AFTER GETTING THE TOP EMBELLISHED, I STARTED ON THE SIDES OF THE BOX... CUTTING STRIPS OF RED CARDSTOCK AND USING THE SAME TECHNIQUE TO ADD THE BRICK WALL TEXTURE.

ONCE I ADHERED THE STRIPS OF CARDSTOCK ON WITH MOD-PODGE, I ADDED SOME COORDINATING RIBBON AND BLACK STRING PEARLS TO THE SIDES OF THE LID. I USED FABRI-TAC BY BEACON TO GLUE DOWN THE RIBBON AND BLACK PEARLS.

OTHER THAN ADDING A FEW MORE LITTLE EVERGREEN TREES ON THE SIDES... THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT! WHEN YOU HAVE GREAT PRODUCTS TO WORK WITH; IT MAKES CREATING BEAUTIFUL "ART" LIKE THIS SO MUCH MORE FUN AND REWARDING!!

I CAN SEE THIS BEAUTIFUL LITTLE KEEPSAKE BEING A PART OF SOMEONE'S FAMILY TRADITIONS FOR MANY YEARS.
